General objectives of the research:
This present study aim to understand growing interest in online dating and
sexuality on the Internet (dating websites).
Specifically, our goal is to explore how personality (eg. Impulsive or introvert, etc.)
and motivations (eg. excitement or escaping the everyday worries) influence sexual life on line and
beyond the Internet (contact with others, amount of time spending on line, how it influence your life)
Procedure:
This study is designed for people over 18 years who speak the language of the
questionnaire (English). In this research, we will ask you to respond
anonymously to questions in which also are included scales that measure
personality traits (such as extraversion or impulsivity). These questions are available
online at Survey Monkey (http://fr.surveymonkey.com) To access them, you
should read this information sheet and click on the link which will direct you on the
questionnaire.
In the questionnaire, first of all you will be asked about your agreement to
participate in this study. If you agree, your data , which remind anonymously , will
be recorded and included in a statistical analysis; they will be also described in a
scientific publishing.
The usual time to respond to the questionnaire should be about 30 to 45 minutes.
Confidentiality:
The data will be treated confidentially as it is provided by law. Your IP address will
be not recorded for this research. In addition, no name, email, nickname or other
information that could identify you will be used in reports or publications resulting
from this study, ensuring the anonymity of the results. Representatives of the Ethics
Committees have a right to have inside view at the original data, which later
remaining strictly confidential.
The data will be stored initially by the Survey Monkey site and access to the data
base is strictly protected and secured with a username and password. Only
investigators and person responsible for this project knows username and
password. Later on data will be stored on a hard drive locked up in the addiction
department of the University Hospitals of Geneva. This hard drive is only accessible
to investigators.
Advantages and benefits for participants:
There is no direct benefit to you or pay for the participation in this study. The
advantage of participation in the study is to advance the state of knowledge on the
subject.
Disadvantage and potential risks to the participants:
This study presents no risk to you. You can leave the study at any time without
giving reason. Nothing that would give access to your personal data will be
requested. All information (answers) which you will be willing to share during this
study are not intended for your identification.
Project duration:
Data will be collected during one year
Abort:
You have the right to discontinue the study at any time without giving any reason.
Access to research results:
The overall results of the study will be available in summary form on the website of
the addiction department of the University Hospitals of Geneva at the publication
of data.

This study was approved by the Chief of the Medical Service of addiction. The study
protocol was approved by the “Ethics and Rehabilitation Geriatric Psychiatry”
University Hospitals of Geneva.
