Research Project

The Salon francophone de Glendon (Online consent form)

The purpose of this research project is to understand the role of the Salon francophone de Glendon in developing students’ plurilingual/pluricultural competence in the French language. This is a research project being conducted by Drs. Viswanathan and Lebel of the Language Training Centre for Studies in French at Glendon College, York University. You are invited to participate in this research project because you are a student enrolled in an FSL course at Glendon College in the academic semesters September to end of April 2017-2018. Your participation in this research study is entirely voluntary. You may choose not to participate. If you decide to participate in this research survey, you may withdraw at any time. If you decide not to participate in this study or if you withdraw from participating at any time, you will not be penalized. The procedure involves filling in an online survey that will take approximately 20 minutes. Your responses will be confidential and no identifying information such as your name, email address or IP address is collected.
The survey questions will be about:
-your experiences as a student in French second language courses
-your participation in activities in French outside the classroom (notably the Salon francophone)
-your motivation to learn French;
-your level/level of comfort in French (speaking, listening, reading, writing)

Your specific answers and comments will be kept completely confidential. To help protect your confidentiality, the surveys will not contain information that will personally identify you. All data will be stored in a password protected
electronic format. Only the principal investigators will have access to the data collected during the study. After a period of five years, all records will be erased. We do not foresee any risks or discomfort from your participation in the research. The results of this study will be used for scholarly purposes only. The researchers acknowledge that the host of the online survey (e.g., Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, Facebook) may automatically collect participant data without their knowledge (i.e., IP addresses.) Although this information may be provided or made accessible to the researchers, it will not be used or saved without participant’s consent on the researcher’s system. Further, because this project employs e-based collection techniques, data may be subject to access by third parties as a result of security legislation now in place in many countries and thus the confidentiality and privacy of data cannot be guaranteed during web-based transmission.
Should you have any further questions or concerns about your rights as a participant in this project, please contact Sr. Manager & Policy Advisor for the Office of Research Ethics, 5th Floor, Kaneff Tower, York University (telephone 416-736-5914 or e-mail
