Dear parent/guardian,

We invite you to participate in a research project on family adaptation in the context of a pandemic and the contribution of distance education and parental support to the adaptation of children aged 6 to 17. Data collection will end on December 15, 2020.

This form may contain words you do not understand. We invite you to contact the researcher in charge of the project or a member of his or her research team to ask any questions you may have. Feel free to ask them to explain any words or information that is unclear. Take as much time as you need to read and understand this form before making your decision.

Objectives of the Project
This project has two objectives:
1) to draw a portrait of psychosocial adaptation, including the mental health of school-aged children (6-17 years) and their parents in the context of the pandemic;
2) to assess the contribution of three variables on child and parental adjustment.
(a) the effect of the pandemic and confinement measures will be assessed on family functioning;
(b) the various distance education services deployed by governments and schools will be identified and their effects assessed, in the short term, on psychosocial adjustment and mental health and, in the long term, on school functioning.
(c) the influence of parent-child relationships on the relationship between education and children's adjustment will be documented.

Task
Your participation in this research project consists of completing a questionnaire on a web portal that will provide general information, possible stress experienced during the pandemic, distance education, family relationships, and child adjustment. This task takes approximately 40 minutes.

Privacy
The data collected by this study is entirely confidential and will not lead to your identification. Your confidentiality will be ensured by a numerical code. The communication of the results of the research will in no way allow the participants to be identified.

The electronic data will be consolidated in a password-protected file. Email addresses will be destroyed as soon as the prizes are awarded to the winners (see ‘’compensation’’ below). Anonymized data will be stored electronically for future use in other research projects. It will be destroyed when no further use is relevant to the advancement of knowledge.
Risks or Disadvantages
There are no risks associated with your participation. The only disadvantage is the 40 minutes spent on the project.

Although the risk is below the minimum threshold, all interested participants will have access to a document containing information, a directory of websites, conferences on family adjustment, distance education, and family support.

Compensation
All participants who complete the various sections of the web survey, in addition to participating in the advancement of knowledge, will have the opportunity to participate in a draw to win $100 (CAD). The draw will take place at the end of data collection in December 2020. The five winners will be notified by email and will receive instructions on how to transfer the amount to their bank account.

Voluntary Participation

Your participation in this study is voluntary. You are entirely free to participate or not, to refuse to answer certain questions or to withdraw at any time without prejudice and without having to provide explanations.
